SUMMARY:Workshop: Environmental Biotechnology for the management of PFAS and beyond
DESCRIPTION:Engineering Biology encompasses the wider capabilities/ecosystem that supports the exploitation of synthetic biology knowledge for economic and public benefit. Leveraging cutting-edge engineering biology technology to address environmental problems\, including the contaminations of PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ and other pollutants\, has become a strategic priority area of research in the UK\, and indeed worldwide. Collaborative effort is key to developing and identifying sustainable solutions to address a range of emerging challenges. \nKeynote Speakers \nWe are delighted to announce our two keynote speakers are from Princeton University\, USA:\n– Prof. Peter Jaffé\, Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering\, Princeton University\, USA. Title (tentative): Natural bacterial strains for PFAS defluorination\n– Prof. Joshua Atkinson\, Assistant Professor of Civil and Environmental\, Princeton University\, USA. Title (tentative): Synthetic biology approaches in environmental applications \nEarly Career Researchers – apply to present! \nThe workshop will also feature a session dedicated to early career researchers (ECRs) with a series of 5-minute presentations. We invite ECRs to submit an application for a talk on their work and most recent research advances on innovations in this workshop defined area. A jury\, composed of professionals and researchers\, will vote for the best early career researcher’s presentation\, with a best presentation prize of £100 (as vouchers) and the runner-up for a price of £50 (as vouchers) being awarded during the workshop!
